Up in the air, down on the ground

I finally got Matt´s present today. Today was the day I got to go flying. And it was fabulous! We arrived at Sheffield City airport around quarter past ten and wandered into the offices of Yorkshire Flight training, who would be taking me up. After a bit of chat and a fairly random video, the pilot arrived from his previous flight and began to tell me what we would do. I started to get giggly and probably made a huge fool of myself. Then, after a bit more giggly action, it was time to introduce me to my plane. I would be flying a Cessna 150, which was a bit like the Bulldogs and Chipmunks I had flown in the RAF cadets. I was hooked up, strapped in and made confortable and it was time to go.

I love flying, me. The sensation of it is amazing. I wish I had been able to join the RAF, but being only 5´4, short sided and colour blind soon put paid to that one. Gutted. But it´s times like these that really cheer me up. We took off, heading over towards Gainsborough. We rose to about 1000ft and then, all of a sudden, I had control. Just like that. Did some turns and the like and then just flew around. Then we turned around and headed towards the Peak District. The aim was to fly around the peaks and along the dams the Dambusters flew over to practice their runs. From what I saw today, those blokes must have had balls the size of houses. And I was in a tiny, highly maneuvarable Cessna. They were in great big whopping Lancasters that made tanks look like ice skaters! Biiiiiig balls. After flying over the dams and through what seemed to be a peat fire on a hill top (it stank like one), it was time to head back to the airport. All this took just over an hour. And I got told I was a natural (cos they don´t say that to everyone). Your loss, RAF people! By the time I was unstrapped, I was giggling like an idiot again. But it was sooo much fun! I loved every minute of it.

Thanks Matt. You´re ace!

I used to be in the RAF cadets in school and I love flying! Unfortunately It´s been put off twice due to the crappy weather. Oh well, I suppose that´s what you get for having a birthday in January. Damn the parents!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Not that i can remember much of it. It has been quite a boozy holiday period and I probably made an almightly fool of myself. But it is the season to be jolly and all that so why not? Now it all nearly over (the tree is coming down on saturday) and the work depression is beginning to set in again. Although I only had two days off over the entire thing; christmas day and new years. Working for the NHS sucks sometimes.

Well, I have made some resolutions but I´m not telling what they are as I´ve kept them so far. You´l find out when I fail. Which will probably be next week. Hey ho!

Oooooh, the hills are aliiiiive with the soooound of groaning!

Well, I have been roped (well, I say roped, gently pushed more like) into walking up steep inclines (yes, thank you Bernie) on a regular basis. The walking club mentioned about their christmas walk and meal, and the meal sounded nice so I thought I would go. I was right. The meal was nice but the service was lousy. We were staying in a bunk barn above Ingleton on the Yorkshire Dales, which was lovely. The place we had the meal at was called the Manton Arms (I think). Apparently, it had just been taken over, so the place was in chaos. Like three quarters of an hour and three times if asking to get coffees. It was not well organised. But the walk went well. We reckon it was about 10 miles there and back and included a trip down White Scar caves in Ingleton, which everyone should go and do. And I didn´t feel like I was going to die the next day. So that was a bonus. A warning. Once I manage to do anything on a regular basis, walking will probably be mentioned.

In other news, Matt´s brother, Rob, and his girlfriend, Collette, are having a baby! They found out fairly early on, so it´s not due until the end of June. I´m not sure whether they´ll find out the sex or whether they will keep it a suprise (the current vogue in work, where there are about a million pregnant women.) but at the moment, I think they´ve only got names for boys. Boys are so much easier to name than girls. So we´ll have a little nephew or niece in less than a year. Yeay! On a selfish note, phew! hopefully that´s the heat off me for a while. Or it could all go the other way and give Matt funny ideas. Down boy! Check out Matt´s website for further details.

Christmas is coming and for once I have done all my christmas shopping before December even started! Okay, I took two days off 29/30 November to do it all, but both me and Matt got all our shopping in two days, including being pyschic for picky, giving no hints what so ever Mothers. I am quite proud.

Cal´s still a nutter

Here comes the mighty predator…

… I had something really funny to say about the planet earth on BBC 4, but it took soooo long to get here that I´ve forgotten what it was that was funny. And it was funny. I remember asking Matt that he should have sympathy for squid: it must have had something to do with nature vs computer (you can have tonnes {imperial measurements only here} of fun here). There´s something about the sea that can lend a geek (or a geek by proxy as I may be) some banter. Oh, if only I hadn´t been to Beer Ritz before I wrote this. David Attenborough rocks! It´s all gone a bit hazy! Although Matt says he will help me make the Critique look better. Here goes! And if I could do, I would should you my collection of backgrounds. They´re ll nature related but funny in a computer sense (squid, pengiuns = tux etc. I am soooo funny. It´s the beer). But some of them are well cute. They should be present, if I get this stuff sorted.

La di da, I am crap

Yes I know I haven´t written about Anthony´s yet. Yes I know it was nearly a month ago. But I really need to change the lay out of the Critiques. Otherwise, it will end up a big mess. Some of the reviews need updating too. So you´ll just have to wait.

On the shock front, I have been going to the gym. I was shocked. And tomorrow, I am going on a walk with a bunch of nutters, who like walking up big hills (hello Nix!). Which such be fun, It´s the same people I did the big walk in June with. Oh, and somehow (Nix again), I´ve been talked into doing the BIG Wheatfields walk nnext year. Great.

On better news, I´m getting a PSP for christmas. YEAY! Then, I´ll be able to game anywhere I want, as long as I have the battery. He´s getting an ipod, which I will promptly steal. Muha ha ha ha ha! Cal´s still a nutter. What he doesn´t know, is that he´s getting a vasectomy for christmas. I am talking about the cat. Not in the habit of handing out surgery for presents. Although, it is a thought. Maybe I could get them half price, since I work for the NHS. Hmmmm……

This is not just a website….

…this is a home-grown, self indulgent, food obsessed website, topped with a rich, creamy layer of sarcasm. This is not just a website. This is a M&S website.

Sorry but I really really hate those adverts. I adore food, but by patronising me to such an extent that you have to tell me what honey glazed ham is, I would like to boycott all M&S products. Unfortunately, I have become addicted to M&S sandwiches and snacks. They are my friday treat when I have to go to Manchester every week. So, instead, I will have to content myself with throwing things at the tv when the woman with the stupid voice starts whispering about how something isn’t just bread. How can bread be not bread? That’s not a trick question.

Anyhow, it is Matt’s birthday tomorrow and, boy!, what a trauma I have had trying to get him a present. I can’t say what it is, in case he’s spying on me (he’s sat right next to me) but it all had to come from Japan and half of it won’t get here in time. But he’s got Anthony’s to look for to. Oh boy, it that going to be a blog! Find it on Kate’s Critiques sometime after saturday (whenever I can move again).

Talking of Kate’s critiques, I was looking on google’s webmaster stuff, and the ranking for things people have searched for. I was suprised how high up I was for some things, mostly food related but other things were really random. I came in ninth for “trying to get up that great big hill of hope” and ninth for “calm down Kate”. People search for the weirdest things. But the most of it is definitly food related. I may have to start letting it slip to restaurants that i’m an online food critic (ooookay) and see if I can get food for free. You never know. Hee hee hee!

Errrrrrrr….

…..it’s been so long since I wrote a post, I can’t even think of a title. I’ve missed the entirity of September. I’ve been abroad (Spain). Nick and Clare got a dog (Simba!). I’ve spent far too much money (boo!). Cal is a little bugger, attacking Gizmo whenever he gets the chance (whenever she’s in range). I can’t even really remember September. So on to October. Actually, I went away in September and came back in October. Now, I’m back in work, with a slight tan. Six books later (it was that kind of holiday). And that’s about it for for this month. We’ve got Anthony’s to look forward to, as it’s Matt’s birthday in the 25th. I can’t think of owt else to say. I promise to be better!

It’s been a bit mad

August was a bit of a mad month. I’ve spent a lot of money and cooked a lot of meals. Drank a lot of beer. I’ve managed to cook sunday lunch for four people (I was impressed) and make my own soda bread and dumplings (technically in september, but who’s counting?). I got promoted at work. YEAY! and today I went back to university. It’s all going on in this house. Me and Matt are going away at the end of September, which we are looking forward to. Matt has painted out bedroom, which was a horrid mushroom brown and is now a lovely gentle yellow. He and his brother, Rob, had a good bash trying to fix our leaking windows, which involved Rob balancing up a ladder in gale force winds. We joined a gym (eurgh!) and I’ve actually been since. We’ve had a few fancy meals (that’s probably why we’re so skint). And I have worked. Lots. As usual. Hey ho, here’s looking to the rest of september.
